Similar to Fargesia murielae, this bamboo looks best when grown in partial shade and is more upright. Plant it directly into the ground for maximum growth and form.
The culms when exposed to some early morning sun are a purple/burgundy color but new culms emerge with a bluish white powder giving it the name ‘Blue Fountain’ bamboo. This is a great
bamboo for the lazy gardener. It is tough, beautiful and clumping. The previous time this bamboo flowered was in the late 1880’s.
