This all green vigorous bamboo is super hardy and fast. It is an excellent source of edible bamboo shoots with good taste. Unlike most bamboos, it will grow in a wet spot. Yellow grove has canes that are green with a bright yellow stripe in the sulcis groove. Like all aureosulcata cultivars it makes a very erect screen and has the occasional cane with a zig zag kink. The culms are golden with contrasting bright green grooves. The green leaves have an occasional yellow stripe. The spectacular part is the rosy red tinting on the young culms and sun exposed old culms. The new shoots emerge with purple sheaths that show yellow internodes as the shoots elongate. Quite showy and tropical looking for such a hardy bamboo. Castillon is a stunning rare cultivar with colorful orange and green canes with variegated leaves. It is slower spreading then most running bamboos.
